Making sustainable living work

Recycle

Recycle what can be recycled to keep it out of the landfill.

Compost

Produce compost from kitchen and garden waste to minimise greenhouse gas emissions from landfill.

Grow

We use the compost to grow vegetables on our urban farms, using specially developed growbags that save water and do not use pesticides and inorganic fertilisers, and create new sustainable jobs.

How it works

Waste collections

Recycle what can be recycled to keep it out of the landfill. We offer a collection service for all your recyclables. From compost to electronics, every item is given a new purpose.

Sorting

Once collected, each recyclable material is meticulously sorted, setting the stage for its next purpose.

Organic composting

Food waste and garden cuttings are converted into rich compost, which is used to grow vegetables and shared with other local urban farm hubs connected with CORC.

Sustainable farming

Using our compost and recycled materials, we cultivate fresh produce through urban farming initiatives, as well as job creation. We use specially developed growbags that save water and do not use pesticides and inorganic fertilisers.

Farm-to-table

Our online store offers you the opportunity to support this vision by ordering sustainably grown produce. Each order is harvested fresh, ensuring zero waste, and delivered directly to your doorstep via e-bike or available for collection at a central location.

Repeat

With every collection, the cycle of sustainability continues, reinforcing Cape Town’s commitment to a zero-waste future.

Our eco-friendly mission

Committed to eco-friendly living, ZeroToLandfill is one of Cape Town’s leaders in recycling and sustainable living. We aim to empower residents and corporations to participate in our goal of sending no waste to landfills, thereby fostering a cleaner, greener Cape Town for all.

ZeroToLandfill was started in 2022 by a group of committed residents in Mowbray and Rosebank who wanted to improve recycling solutions and contribute towards alleviating poverty. The project partnered with CORC’s urban farming initiative, becoming a pilot research hub to support the other 43 farming hubs around the country.

The ZeroToLandfill farming hub is based at St George’s Grammar School in Mowbray, with offices in a home nearby. All organic (kitchen and garden) waste is processed into compost for the farms in the south-western Cape, and used to grow vegetables which are now available for purchase through our online market.

Our recycling service is by far the most environmentally friendly and comprehensive option available in the area. Collections are made using e-bikes and include both the usual recyclable items plus e-waste (electronic and electrical equipment), batteries, light bulbs and ‘non-recyclable’ plastic which normally ends up in landfill.
